Writing Task 2 (an essay)
Some people view giving presents as an important way to show care to family and friends, others think there are more important things that can be done to show care and appreciation. Do you agree or disagree?

Today showing care by giving gifts has been increasing in people. This has really boomed the gift market which has become a parallel economy. However, spending quality time or being helpful in crisis can be felt more caring than realizing care or appreciation through gifts.

In the present materialistic world, gifts have taken a prestigious place. Due to fast life and spending more time in work, many people, however, fail to balance work and life. As a result, commitments are maintained by giving gifts rather than meeting personally. This approach is seen within family members too.

Nevertheless, helping financially or remain present while someone is given treatment can give some sort of satisfaction; e.g., while a person is hospitalized and if people come to see him without expensive gifts but with flowers or fruits only can make him feel secure and not alone.

Moreover, though revolutionarily people come closer with one another worldwide through advanced technology, emotionally the gap has been widened even with the closest one. E.g., on birthday many parents send expensive gadgets rather than enjoying time with children because of their hectic schedule.

This aggravating development occurs only because of person’s greed of earning money for exotic things and so gifts are valued and reckoned more over feelings; e.g., many gift receivers instantly see the brand tag or price tag over the giver’s emotions and appreciations.

Thus, Gifts only give a momentary sense of caring or appreciation for others whereas by accompanying, by assisting or sharing their happiness and sorrows in person rather than simply giving gifts, which looks utterly dry, will tune smoother and more harmonious relationship.
